Craps is a dice game that has been around for a very long time. The game seems to have originated back to around the times of the Crusades, serving as a simplified version of the English game Hazard. Today Craps is a very popular casino game, arriving in all major betting destinations throughout the world.Craps has proven to be very popular among players, as there is a lot of excitement that occurs when a player goes on a rolling spree. The Craps tables at the casinos are often the busiest in the entire premises, as there are bunches of friends cheering on the action. It is not uncommon for tables to be busy throughout the night, with action roaring at the tables long after the Roulette and Blackjack tables have piped down to a whisper.
Players looking to play craps will notice that there is a large and complex betting table where the action goes down. Players typically stand at a Craps table, which is oval in shape.
The table in Craps has a ton of bets for players, but fortunately the game is very easy to get a handle on. The game is played by multiple people, who throw down wagers on the table, while one person rolls the dice.
The player who is rolling the dice (called a Shooter) is required to bet on the Pass or Don’t Pass Line, which serve as various rounds. Rounds are made up of the come out and point.
If the Shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12, they lose automatically. This is known as rolling craps. If you have a wager on the Pass Line, you would lose as well. If the Shooter rolls a 7 or 11 they win automatically. This is known as rolling a Natural. If any other number comes up during the roll, they establish a Point. The point number must be rolled again before the player rolls a 7. If the Shooter rolls that number, he and anyone with money on the Pass Line wins. If a 7 appears before the point number, the Shooter and player with money on the Pass Line loses.
There are a whole bunch of specialized bets that can be placed on a Craps Table, and even though they are simple enough to understand, they can be intimidating if you don’t understand them.
The following bets are allowed in Craps:
The Pass Line- If you are the Shooter you have to bet on this option. If you are not the Shooter you don’t have to, but can if you so wish. The Pass Line bet is paid out 2:1 if the Shooter rolls a 7 or 11. If they roll 2, 3, or 12 they lose. Any other number is the point and must be rolled again before a 7 is rolled. If this happens you win 2:1. If the 7 appears, you lose.
Don’t Pass Line- This is a bet against the Shooter, in which you believe that they will not make it past their Pass Line Bet. If the Shooter rolls a 2 or 3, you win with a payout of 2:1. If they roll 7 or 11 you lose. A 12 roll is a draw. If the point comes up and the player rolls a 7 before hitting their point, you win 2:1.
The Field- A bet that sees players betting that the next number rolled will be 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. These bets pay out 2:1.
Odds- This bet occurs after the Pass Line is made and point established. The bet is that the point will be hit before a 7 is rolled onto the table. This is considered to be a good bet because it has no House Advantage. This bet pays out 2:1.
Come- The Come bet comes out after the initial roll. The bet is one which players will wager that the Shooter will roll their point after the first roll. This bet pays out 2:1.
Don’t Come- Serves as the opposite of the Come Bet, wagering that the player will roll a 7 before their point comes out after the initial roll. This bet pays out 2:1.
Place- The Place bet essentially is the same thing as an Odds bet, but you don’t have to place a Pass or Come bet first. This bet pays out 2:1.
Individual Numbers- These bets are that the next number rolled will be a certain number. They pay out very well, but are unlikely to happen, and thus are considered to be a poor choice if you are playing at a table.
Big 6 or Big 8- There is also the Big 6 or Big 8 bet, in which you believe the Shooter will roll a 6 or 8 before a 7 is rolled. These bets pay out 2:1.
