Detroit Pistons Blake Griffin vs. Brooklyn Nets

The Bet: Over 13.5 Points (-104)

It’s no secret Blake Griffin is having an extremely disappointing season. If you have him on your fantasy team, you know all too well how frustrating the talented big has been this year. Griffin, who was averaging 24.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game just two seasons ago, is putting up career lows across the board. His 12.2 points per game are the lowest of his career while shooting only 36 percent per game. That might explain the number that looks so surprising at first glance. That being said, Blake would get many matchups better than this one.

The Brooklyn Nets have been a horrific team with the Big Three on the defensive end. Brooklyn is giving up over 118 points per game, the third-worst mark in the NBA. The Nets are also second-worst in the league giving up 51.6 points in the paint a night. Not like Kevin Durant is an intimidating defender, but having him out gives you one less seven-footer on the floor while shortening your rotation, so it’s definitely not a positive.

Blake has shown some flashes of past glory this season, putting up a game of 23 a few weeks ago against the Lakers’ stingy defense. Griffin also had a season-high 26 point-effort around the start of the year.

The Pistons are a +6.5 point home underdog at FanDuel’s Sportsbook, while the Moneyline sits at +210. The total is set at 229.5, which would be higher if Durant were playing but still suggests a higher scoring affair thanks to the Nets and Pistons’ lack of defense.

Miami Heat Jimmy Butler vs. New York Knicks

Jimmy Butler’s returns from a long absence on the COVID list has undoubtedly helped the Miami Heat look more like their Eastern Conference Championship team. The Heat won the third game of five with Butler back in the lineup against the Knicks on Sunday. Jimmy flirted with a triple-double but put up only 17 points.

While Miami has been winning, Butler hasn’t been killing it on the offensive end. The former Sixer has reached over 20 points in just two of the five games since his return. Butler is averaging only 16.6 per game in his past three games while attempting just nine shots from the field. Much of Butler’s damage is done at the line and in the paint.

New York is the fifth-best team in the NBA defending the paint while they’re top-ten in free throws against. The Knicks are also atop the league allowing just 104 points per game and a league-low 43.7 percent shooting from the field. They are coming off Sunday’s game where they held Butler to only 27 percent shooting from the floor.
